The Downtown Century Theatre Block represents the first phase of the Downtown Revitalization program, led by a collaborative team including Gregory Hartman, the Historic District Improvement Company (HDIC), and the City of Albuquerque. The block is sited at the ‘East entrance’ to Albuquerque’s downtown and creates a gateway to the new entertainment and commercial center of the city.

The liner buildings reflect the established thirty-foot traditional grid which surrounds a fourteen-screen, multi-plex theater. The mixed use building features retail on the ground floor perimeter, and offices on the upper floors. Inspiration for the design came from the “pedestrian first” streetscapes that existed during the 1890 railroad era. Construction was completed 13% under budget and has won numerous design awards. The design has become a national model for creating pedestrian-friendly streetscapes around big box development.
