While with another firm, the Design Group core team begun working with the St. Joseph’s Healthcare system before it was purchased by Lovelace Healthcare Systems. Once that purchase occurred, The Design Group collaborated with the new ownership of the St. Joseph Healthcare system as it merged and was transformed to Lovelace Healthcare Systems. The Design Group completed projects on several campuses for this client, including Lovelace Downtown and Lovelace Westside.

Lovelace Medical Center – Westside
Lovelace Westside is the oldest and only full-service hospital on Albuquerque’s Westside. In an effort to modernize, the majority of the first floor’s 35,600 square feet were remodeled.
The goal of the project team was to transform an aging hospital into a modern, state-of-the-art medical center that provides the latest technology and efficiency in medical care in a warm, inviting and healing environment.
This project was part of a campus-wide master plan that also included the renovation and expansion of the Emergency Department. An interim Emergency Department was designed, constructed, and occupied in just four weeks.

The project included a complete redesign of the critical care unit, intensive care units, post- and pre-operative areas, post-anesthesia care unit, medical/surgical patient units, gastro-intestinal laboratory, pharmacy, main lobby, registration areas, cardio-pulmonary therapy rooms, radiology area, physical therapy rooms, renovated operating rooms including orthopedic surgery, in-patient units and endoscopic surgical suites. The remodel also added state-of-the-art surgical and imaging equipment to the hospital while upgrading all electrical, medical gases, HVAC, digital and data services.

Lovelace Medical Center – Downtown
The Design Group collaborated to create and implement an ambitious Master Plan for Ardent Healthcare System’s Lovelace Medical Center – Downtown. The goal was to create an environment that promotes healing within a state-of-the-art campus and facility. In addition to modernizing and renovating the entire existing hospital; substantial medical office space was added and 850 new parking spaces were created, providing easy access and circulation for campus visitors. The campus central plant is being upgraded and/or relocated. The project is phased over several years.
Included in the project were major finish upgrades to four patient floors; including ICU, SDU and CCU; creating a peaceful ambience for healing.
