The vision of this project is to create a neighborhood community with homes designed to support dignity, social connection, and inclusion for our senior veterans.
The design of these new homes respects and blends with the existing campus architectural “Territorial Revival” style and responds to our New Mexico regional building identity. Warm wood finishes, earth-tone plaster, an abundance of daylight, and a kiva fireplace, offer a comfortable environment typical of our region’s homes.
Each resident will have a private room with both a sleeping and small personal living area in addition to a fully accessible bathroom. Residents will also enjoy social interaction in communal spaces such as living room, kitchen, dining, and other outdoor and common indoor spaces. The overall goal is to reduce the typically institutional feel of these types of projects and instead provide a home-like environment.
The high-performance building envelope design will offer more comfortable, durable, and efficient spaces and reduce the energy demand of these fully electric homes served by on-site renewable energy production. These design strategies will ultimately contribute to Net Zero Energy certification, and the State of New Mexico and Governor’s vision is to use this project as a standard for similar projects in New Mexico.
