To enhance the security of their students, the Texico Municipal School District and The H+M Design Group worked together to program and design three new secure front entries for the Elementary, Middle and High schools on the district’s single consolidated campus. The new front entries allow for control of visitors, students and staff while providing a new Entry face for each school. Additionally, the entries were an opportunity to upgrade the look and feel of the campus while providing clear entrance locations. It was critical to maintain the overall campus feel and respond to its context of red brick and white stucco while also providing a new contemporary look. Each entry has a covered ‘front porch’ to welcome the community and provide an informal gathering space. Working with the CMaR and the owner, The H+M Design Group helped to lead value engineering and cost control measures to balance the budget with the scope. Through close collaboration between the design team and the contractor, the design and construction schedules were expedited allowing for an early release package for the foundations, earthwork and steel.
